I haven't posted in a while, so here comes a few random thoughts about things that have consumed my time lately.
The first, most exciting news is that our city finally had a brand new Target store open. Now you might think it's nice to have a brand new store, but in reality we have never even had an OLD Target in our town. So this is big news. Here's the thing about Target: I find many things that I love online and in catalogs, I just can't afford them. Then I will walk into Target, and lo and behold, there is a very similar item for less than half the price in a fancy store! Example: I have had my eye on this really cute lamp from Pottery Barn for a while. Of course, I couldn't really afford it, so image my surprise when I walked into Target to find this lamp! So, needless to say, I am super excited about our Target and trying very hard to stay away for at least a few days at a time.
Ever since reading the Twilight series, I have been at a loss as to what book to pick up next. I love books that really pull you in and won't let you put the book down until you absolutely have to. The all consuming type of book. After the 4 book Twilight series, I also wanted something simple that didn't carry on for book after book. Read the book, be done and put the characters to rest. I picked up a new book called Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and was immediately hooked. Very different story line and setting, but I loved the characters within the first few pages. I devoured this book in about 2 days and as I neared closer and closer to the end, I started to wonder, how can this story be wrapped up in these last few pages? I pursued on and on only to turn the last page and see these words written under the last paragraph: BOOK ONE OF THREE. What???????? I picked up another trilogy book? Now I am hopelessly hooked and will be forced to buy 2 more books to find out how this story ends. AND I have to wait because the next book is not even out yet! If I would have known this, I am not sure I would have picked this book. Don't get me wrong, it was an amazing book. I just didn't want to wait again to finish a story. The anticipation builds after each book until you get to the end and you can either be completely elated (Harry Potter series) or ho hum about the whole thing (Twilight). I guess the verdict will remain unknown for a while until I can get my hands on books 2 and 3 of Hunger Games.
I love blogs. I can really get sucked into reading blogs all day. People are just so witty and clever. They make me smile, laugh, cry, and even inspire me to cook. So here are two new blogs that I am adding to my list. The first is cake wrecks. Readers can submit professionally decorated cakes that have somehow gone horribly wrong. The results are truly hilarious. I was laughing out loud at the "Under Neat That" cake. You have to check it out to see for yourself. She posts a new cake every day and then on Sunday you get rewarded with a truly beautiful cake. The commentary is hilarious and these cakes have had me laughing for days. My 2nd new favorite blog is stuff Christians like. This one is harder to describe, but Jon takes things that Christians consider basics and puts a humorous spin on them. For instance the blog entry about 3 mistakes that are made going out to eat after church on Sundays. If you have ever been in a restaurant near a Baptist church around 12:15 on a Sunday, you can relate. Or the blog on designing a church logo (Any t must be in the form of a cross!!). Truly funny stuff.
Ok, enough of my randomness. Although there is more to come with a Chuck E Cheese birthday party report, 4 month entry for Nathan, and a sweet letter to my baby boy for my scrapbook.
Stay tuned!!
